POP Port | Optional | |
This is the port, or channel, that is used to send and receive POP commands. The default value is 110. If you have a POP Firewall in place then the firewall may be using port 110 in which case the administrator will have allocated a different port number for the POP commands.
Example: 110 |

POP Firewall Type | Optional
We support three types of firewall: SOCKS4, SOCKS5 and Proxy Server. SOCKS4 is a way of communicating with the e-mail server that does not require any level of security. SOCKS5 is the same except it does require security in the form of a password. A Proxy Server is software that acts as a gateway between you and the internet. Rather than having direct access to the internet (like you do when you dial in using a modem), the Proxy Server connects for you. This gives an additional level of security and protection. |

POP Firewall Host | Optional
This is the address of the firewall on the network. You must connect to the firewall, and then the firewall allows you through and onto the internet (if you pass the security).
Examples: popfirewall.localnetwork.com 128.0.44.255 |

POP Firewall Username | Optional
If you have selected a POP Firewall then you need to identify yourself in order to pass through it. The POP Firewall username may be the name that you use when you log Windows onto the local network, or the same name that you use to access your POP host, or it may be a totally different name purely for the firewall. This is not required for SOCKS4.

POP Firewall Password | Optional
If you have selected a POP Firewall then you will have a password that matches your POP Firewall Username that proves to the POP Firewall that you are authorised to pass through it. This is not required for SOCKS4.
Example: centralperk |

POP Firewall Port | Optional
If you have selected a POP Firewall then the firewall will have it's own port. For a Proxy Server this is usually the same port number as the POP Port (110), for SOCKS4 and SOCKS5 it is usually 1080.
Example: 110 |

SMTP Connection | Optional
When you send e-mail there are two ways to connect to the server; authenticated and unauthenticated. Some servers insist that you connect to them using a specific dial-up connection or phone number, to prove that you are authorised to access the server. Others require your password, and this is known as an ESMTP log-in. If you are having problems when sending e-mail, such as a message saying that you are not authorised to connect to the server, you probably need to change this setting to ESMTP. |

SMTP Port | Optional | |
This is the port, or channel, that is used to send and receive SMTP commands. The default value is 25. If you have an SMTP Firewall in place then the firewall may be using port 25 in which case the administrator will have allocated a different port number for the SMTP commands.
